Americus, Ga. – In its final match of the season, the Lander women's tennis team swept Georgia Southwestern 7-0.
Lander moves to 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the PBC while GSW drops to 4-7 overall and 0-6 in the PBC.
With the victory over the Hurricanes, Lander has secured its first winning season since the 2015 season where the Bearcats went 9-8 overall.
Lander started the match off with a 2-1 victory in doubles. Eduarda Ferreira and Maria Rey won 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles while Roberta Armani and Lindsey Wiggins took a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 doubles to give the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.
Lander would go 6-0 in singles play starting with a three-set rally from Ferreira at the No. 1 singles. Although dropping the first set 2-6, she would rally and win the next two sets 6-1 and 10-6. Chiara Gerbino took a 6-2,6-1 win at the No. 2 singles, Rey won 6-3,6-0 at the No. 3 singles, Raquel Acco won 6-0,6-1 at the No. 4 singles, Wiggins won 7-5,6-1 at the No. 5 singles while Armani won 6-3,6-1 at the No. 6 finals to give Lander its perfect 7-0 finish.
