Women's lacrosse hits the road to face Montevallo Friday night

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's lacrosse team continues its conference schedule with a trip to Montevallo Friday for a 7 pm showdown.

STORYLINES

  • Lander is coming off a 16-7 defeat to Div. I Presbyterian. Melissa Clapsaddle led the way for the Bearcats with three goals and had three ground balls and won five draw controls while also causing three turnovers.
  • The Bearcats have lost its last three matches along with being 1-5 in its last six.
  • They last won on March 17 where Lander defeated Catawba 11-5.
  • Emmy Peterson, Alyssa Suchan and Clapsaddle are the only three Bearcats to have 10 or more goals this season. Peterson leads the way in goals (22), assists (14) and points (36). Suchan is second on the team with 14 goals, nine assists and 30 points. Clapsaddle had 14 goals and a6 points on the season.
  • Brenah Sarell made 10 saves against Presbyterian, giving her 300 career saves.
  • This will be the first meeting between Montevallo and Lander in women's lacrosse.
  • The two schools have met on numerous occasions throughout the years, with Montevallo once a member of the PBC.
  • The Falcons are 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the GSC.
  • They are coming off a close 18-17 victory over Young Harris on April 11.
  • Montevallo is 2-2 in its last four with losses to Alabama-Huntsville and Lee while winning against North Greenville and Young Harris.
  • As a team, the Falcons have scored 135 goals while allowing 102 this season.
  • Anja Kuys leads the Falcons in goals this season with 32. She has eight assists and 40 points on the year. The next closest goal scorer is Eleanor Bruce with 15.
  • Rachel Rose and Miranda Laird have split time in the cage this season. Laird had nine starts while Rose has seen action in nine games with one start. Rose is 4-2 while Laird is 3-1.
  • The Bearcats stay on the road as they travel to Alabama-Huntsville on April 18.
