Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lander volleyball team got 27 combined kills from Maya Walker, Alexa Barral, and Deona Mims as the Bearcats swept Young Harris on Tuesday night for their first win of the season.
Lander earned the victory by scores of 25-13, 25-13, 26-24.
Walker led Lander with 11 kills, while Barral tallied eight kills on a .667 hitting percentage. Mims finished with eight kills. Madilyn Reed contributed 18 assists and three block assists, while Maddie Reed led the Bearcats with 12 digs. Madison Smith notched three block assists and Maddie Moss recorded 12 assists.
Lander (1-1) dominated nearly every stat line, including kills (38-21), assists (36-21), service aces (8-4), digs (43-34), and hitting percentage (.218-.010).
A pair of service aces from Hallie Huth in set one help Lander embark on a 7-2 run that broke open a two-point set. Lander hit the ground running with a 4-0 start in the second frame, then withstood a rally from the Mountain Lions (0-1) that brought the score to 10-9. From there, the Bearcats outscored YHC 15-3 to move ahead 2-0.
The Bearcats ended the night with a nip-and-tuck win in set three to secure the sweep.
Lander will compete in its home opener on Friday as the Bearcats face Flagler at 6:00 p.m. in Finis Horne Arena.
