Bearcats use Beeson's goal to earn draw at UNC Pembroke

Box Score

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lander women's soccer team trailed UNC Pembroke on Sunday afternoon, but used a goal from Gracie Beeson in the 88th minute to pull even and earn a 1-1 draw.

Lander (2-6-1) fell behind at the 4:17 mark of the first half and withstood an 11-2 shot advantage for UNC Pembroke in the opening 45 minutes. The Bearcats were far more aggressive in the second half, firing seven of their 12 shots on the day. Their last shot of regulation was the difference maker, as Beeson poked a shot past the Braves goalie, giving Lander its first goal in five matches and forcing overtime.

Playing extra time for the third consecutive match, Lander held firm as Taylor Frew made one stop in the second overtime session and the Bearcats held own to earn the draw. Beeson's goal was Lander's first score at UNC Pembroke since 2015.

Lander wraps up the regular season on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. match against USC Aiken at Van Taylor Stadium.
