Tigerville, S.C. – The Lander women's tennis team made the short trip to face the North Greenville Crusaders and came away with a 7-0 victory.
The Bearcats move to 6-5 overall while North Greenville drops to 0-5 overall on the season.
Lander started with a sweep of the doubles matches to start the match up 1-0. Sophomore Roberta Armani and senior Lindsey Wiggins won the No. 3 doubles 6-0, sophomore Raquel Acco and freshman Chiara Gerbino took the No. 2 doubles 7-5 while the pairing of redshirt senior Eduarda Ferreira and senior Maria Rey won the No. 1 doubles 7(6)-5.
The Bearcats then moved their way through the Crusaders roster starting with a clean 6-0,6-0 win at the No. 6 singles from senior Marissa Peterson to give Lander a 2-0 advantage. Armani also won 6-0,6-0 at the No. 5 singles spot to make it 3-0 Bearcats.
Lander clinched the win after Rey won the No. 4 singles flight 6-1,6-0. Ferreira won at the No.1 singles in a heated three-set bout 6-1,1-6,10-8 while Acco also had to battle at the No. 3 singles for a 1-6,6-4,11-9 victory. Gerbino won by forfeit at the No. 2 singles spot.
The Bearcats travel to Augusta for their next match on March 27.
