Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team plated 20 runs on 20 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Converse on Tuesday at Doug Spears Field.
Lander (8-4) struck first as Bridgett Tierney led off the first inning with a triple and scored on a Rylee Omahen sacrifice fly before Shelby Davies smoked a solo home run to left field to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Haven Pesce tattooed a home run of her own to centerfield. Shannon Antonini doubled two batters later, then stole third and raced home on a throwing error to put Lander up 4-0.
Davies extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third with an RBI double. Lander's speed wreaked havoc in the bottom of the fourth when a bunt single from Tierney turned into a run as Antonini advanced all the way to third before scoring when Tierney drew attention breaking for second. Omahen plated Tierney with a single and Madison Ackerman came off the bench to crush a pinch-hit grand slam to make the score 11-0.
Reagan More (1-0) earned a win in her Bearcat debut, striking out six and walking one while allowing just one hit in 3.0 innings. Olivia Veidt struck out two in 2.0 innings of relief.
The Bearcats took the lead in game two when Kalei Cline's grounder brought home Logan Coward. Converse (3-9) tied the game in the top of the fourth, but Lander exploded in the bottom of the inning. Coward singled home Morgan Watson and a double from Pesce plated Coward. An error in the outfield following a Barbara Cook single cleared the bases and Delaney Guerrero followed with an RBI double to give Lander a 7-1 advantage. Guerrero then scored on a double into the gap from Watson and another Valkyrie error brought Watson home to cap the eight-run frame.
Liz Gollin (3-2) worked 4.0 innings to get the win, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Lander returns to action Sunday afternoon when the Bearcats tangle with Walsh at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. at Doug Spears Field.
