Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team fought Clayton State to a scoreless tie through 90 minutes, but saw a fortuitous bounce go the Lakers' way in overtime as the Bearcats dropped a 1-0 decision on Senior Day at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander (2-5) turned up its offensive intensity in the second half after being held to just one shot in the opening stanza. The Bearcats fired 11 shots in the second half and saw two hit the woodwork. Sarah Owen tallied six saves in regulation and made two more in overtime. The last one proved to be the difference, as Owen deflected a shot from the right side of the box that rolled to the waiting feet of an open Laker just outside the left post, who netted the day's lone goal to give Clayton State the win.
Lander held a 14-11 shot advantage and attempted five corner kicks to Clayton State's four.
The Bearcats travel to Georgia College on Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. match.
