Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – After not playing for the last two weeks, the Lander women's lacrosse team dominated the Catawba Indians 11-5 on the road on Wednesday.
Lander advances to 3-2 overall while Catawba drops to 0-4 overall.
Sophomore Alyssa Suchan led the Bearcats in goals with three on the game. She also had five shots on goal, one assist and one ground ball.
The Bearcats struck first blood quickly, as junior Melissa Clapsaddle scored with 28:30 remaining in the first half. Catawba tied things up shortly after, but the Bearcats went on a 6-1 goal spree to close the half out up 7-2. Along with Clapsaddle and Suchan, sophomores Emma Arifin and Haley Von Achen all scored in the first frame.
The Bearcats kept their foot on the gas till the end, outscoring the Indians 4-3 in the second frame to come away with an 11-5 victory. Lander saw goals come from Arifin, Suchan, sophomore Emmy Peterson and freshman Hevynn Shaw who scored her first goal as a Bearcat in the second half.
Junior Brenah Sarell made five saves as she picked up her third victory of the season.
The Bearcats are back in action on March 27 as they host Young Harris in the first Gulf South Conference match of the season.
