Box Score FLORENCE, S.C – Down a goal in the second half, the Lander men's soccer team scored a pair of goals to vault over the Francis Marion Patriots and win a 2-1 contest on the road.
The Bearcats advance to 5-0-0 while Francis Marion drops to 3-3-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the PBC.
The Bearcats and Patriots were tied 0-0 through the first 20 minutes until a converted penalty kick at the 19:30 mark in the first half put Francis Marion ahead 1-0. Lander continued to push the ball upfield through the first frame, as the Bearcats attempted five shots.
The second half saw the Bearcats send a barrage of shots towards the Patriot net, with 7-of-10 shots going on goal. Sophomore Max McNulty got the Bearcats on the board in the 58th minute after some nice passing from sophomore Mohssine Samiki and junior Joe Linley set up the goal.
The two sides remained tied until the 82nd minute of play. Senior Tom Marriott sent a corner kick into the box, where he found sophomore Timon Windisch who fired a volley into the back of the net to give Lander a 2-1 lead.
Junior Jacob Withers earned his fifth consecutive win of the season.
The Bearcats will stay on the road, as they travel to face USC Aiken on March 18.
