Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team used a walk-off homer from Shelby Davies in game one and an offensive explosion in game two as the Bearcats swept USC Aiken, 6-5 and 12-3, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Doug Spears Field.
Lander (11-5) earned its fifth consecutive sweep against the Pacers (0-4). The Bearcats improved to 48-33 all-time against USC Aiken.
In just the second meeting for the Bearcats and Pacers in Greenwood in the last six years, Lander held a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh before the Pacers rallied for two runs to tie the game. That set up Davies, who delivered the walk-off blast to give Lander the win and assure the Bearcats of at least a split in their eighth doubleheader this season. Lander has not suffered a doubleheader sweep in 2021.
The Bearcats took the drama out of the proceedings in game two, scoring 12 runs and cruising to a comfortable nine-run win in just five innings. Lander has now earned a run-rule victory in five of its 11 wins this season.
Lander hosts Newberry on Tuesday at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
