GREENWOOD – The Lander women's tennis fell to the Converse College Valkyries 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats fall to 3-3 while Converse moves to 2-0.
The Valkyries went up 1-0 to start, as they won the doubles point 2-1.
Lander would counter with senior Maria Rey winning 6-2,6-1 at the No. 3 singles spot to tie things up at 1-1. Converse however would take back-to-back wins at the No. 6 and 5 singles spots to take a 3-1 lead over Lander.
The Bearcats countered with a 6-3,6-4 win from sophomore Roberta Armani at the No. 4 singles spot to make it a 3-2 game. That would be as close as Lander would get, as Converse took the match with a 6-2,7-5 victory at the No. 1 singles spot to clinch the victory. Lander would see a win at the No. 2 singles spot from sophomore Raquel Aco who won 5-7,6-3,6-1 to make it 4-3.
The Bearcats are back in action on March 12 as they welcome Young Harris to town.
