Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team run-ruled Concord in game one and rallied in the bottom of the sixth to take game two, earning the Bearcats their first sweep of the season on Wednesday at Doug Spears Field. Lander defeated the Mountain Lions 8-0 and 4-3.
Lander (5-3) grabbed the early momentum in game one when Delaney Guerrero blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, her second long ball of the season. The Bearcats increased the lead in the bottom of the second when Bridgett Tierney delivered an RBI single and Guerrero followed with a two-run double to make the score 6-0. Jillian Terpenning scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth and Rylee Omahen ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when she raced home.
Liz Gollin (1-2) kept the Mountain Lions off the scoreboard, surrendering just two hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.
Concord (0-4) took the first lead of game two, but Tierney scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Coward in the bottom of the first to even the score. After the Mountain Lions moved ahead in the top of the third, Lander answered in the bottom of the fourth with a Haven Pesce RBI double to pull even at 2-2. An RBI single for Concord put the Bearcats down a run, but Hannah Medley laced a pinch-hit RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and Pesce followed with an RBI single to score Terpenning and give Lander its first lead of the game.
The Mountain Lions put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the seventh, but Eliza Gonzalez coaxed a fly ball to left field and a groundout to shortstop to pick up the save and secure the sweep for Lander.
Barbara Cook (3-0) allowed three runs on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.
Lander returns to action tomorrow when the Bearcats host Emmanuel at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
