GREENWOOD – The Lander women's tennis fell in a close match Saturday, as they lost to Newberry 4-3 at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

The Bearcats move to 2-1 on the season while Newberry moves to 3-0.

Lander dropped the doubles point to begin the match, going 2-1. Senior Kayleigh Hahn and senior Lindsey Wiggins won at the no. 3 doubles flight.

The Bearcats unfortunate would drop three straight singles flights to give Newberry a 4-0 advantage to clinch the win. Freshman Chiara Gerbino won 6-3,6-2 at the no. three singles flight, senior Maria Rey won 6-4,6-2 at the no. five singles flight and sophomore Roberta Armani won 4-6,6-4, 10-2 at the no. six flight.

The Bearcats are back in action later today as they host Savannah State at 4 pm.
