Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander women's lacrosse team battled till the end to secure a 12-10 win over North Greenville at Van Taylor Stadium Wednesday night.
The Bearcats are now 2-0 overall while North Greenville drops to 0-2 on the season.
Sophomores Kasey Bronco and Mary Claire Robinson led the scoring charge for the Bearcats, with each netting three goals. Sophomores Alyssa Suchan Emmy Peterson and Robinson all recorded a team-high four points on the night.
Lander came out of the gates firing, as the Bearcats took an early 4-0 leads off a pair of goals from Suchan, one from Robinson and one from Peterson within the first 13 minutes of action. North Greenville would respond with four consecutive goals of its own to tie the game at four with 6:38 remaining. The Bearcats would use a pair of goals from Robinson in the last three minutes to take a 6-4 advantage into the half.
The two sides would stay at a stalemate for most of the second frame, with the game tied at 10 with 8:59 remaining. A goal from junior Melissa Clapsaddle with 8:03 left along with a goal from Bronco at the 4:42 mark would be enough to pull away from the Crusaders.
Junior Brenah Sarell made eight saves on 18 shots faced to secure her second win of the year.
The Bearcats continue to enjoy their stay in Greenwood, as they'll host Mars Hill on February 20 for a 1 pm game.
