GREENWOOD – The Lander wrestling team put on a show at Finis Horne Arena Tuesday night, taking down Limestone 37-6.
The Bearcats advance to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the SACC. Limestone drops to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the SACC.
Although dropping the first match of the night by decision, the Bearcats would storm back, winning the next four to go up 16-3.
In his first match of the season, freshman Joey Felix pinned his opponent in the first period to put Lander in the driver seat. Sophomore Ezekiel Marquez won a close 9-8 decision next that saw a late takedown to give him the advantage. Sophomore Bryson Ethington gave Lander three more points, winning in overtime after being tied at one with his opponent through regulation.
Limestone would pick up another win by decision before redshirt sophomore Jack Bond widened the gap even more with an 18-1 tech fall. Bond is now 8-1 on the season and had won by tech fall three times. Sophomore Ryan Humel picked up his fifth win of the season with a pin in the first period. Humel has won by pinning his opponent three times.
Sophomore Darius Parker was next up to put points on the board, as he took a 16-6 major decision for his ninth win of the season. Parker is 9-0 on the year and has won by major decision three times. Redshirt sophomore Cameron Coffman ended the night with a second-period pin. Coffman is 6-1 on the season and has three pins to his name.
In total, the Bearcats ended the night on a 21-3 swing.
Lander remains at Horne Arena, as they host Coker next on February 18.
