GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team begins the 2021 season this weekend with games against rival Erskine at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader against Lees-McRae at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

STORYLINES

• Lander was picked to finish seventh in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Poll by conference coaches. Shannon Antonini was named to the preseason all-PBC team.  
• The Bearcats ranked fifth nationally in batting average last season (.355), 11th in hits (227), and 15th in stolen bases (57) and stolen bases per game (2.38).
• Liz Gollin made six starts in the circle and seven appearances out of the bullpen, recording three saves. 
• Lander finished the abbreviated 2020 schedule with an 18-5-1 record. 
• The Bearcats are 79-38 all-time against Erskine and hold an 8-5 series lead over Lees-McRae.
• Lander is facing the Flying Fleet and the Bobcats for the first time since 2019, when the Bearcats split a pair of games with both opponents.
• The Bearcats tallied a 14-3-1 record at Doug Spears Field last season.
• Lander is 8-2 in opening-weekend play over the past three seasons.
• Erskine opened its season with a pair of wins over Mars Hill on Tuesday afternoon.
