Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander women's lacrosse team started its season with a bang, trampling the Southern Wesleyan Warriors 18-4 at Van Taylor Stadium Wednesday night.
Lander started scoring and kept going throughout the night, beginning with a 13-0 first-half rampage over the visiting Warriors.
The Bearcats took a total of 37 shots, with 26 going on target. SWU took a combined nine shots, with six of them going on target.
Lander saw eight different goal scorers, with sophomores Mary Claire Robinson, Kasey Bronco, Emmy Peterson, Alyssa Suchan, Haley Von Achen, Emma Arifin, Grace Walters and Lauren Fallow all getting in on the scoring barrage. Peterson and Suchan led the Bearcats with four goals each.
Freshman Gabrielle Cantarella and junior Melissa Clapsaddle were both tied with five draw controls. Clapsaddle also wrangled in five ground balls on the night.
Junior Brenah Sarell picked up the win, moving to 1-0 on the year.
The Bearcats will play host yet again for their next contest, as UVa-Wise comes knocking on February 13.
