GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-1 home loss on Monday night against Young Harris at Van Taylor Stadium. 

Lander took a 1-0 lead at the 11:53 mark of the first half when, following a Mountain Lion foul, Kelcie Fisher buried a free kick from just beyond the right side of the penalty box into the upper-left corner of the net. 

Young Harris responded in the 36th minute when Thea Juul's shot was deflected and snuck inside the far post to knot the score at 1-1. 

The Mountain Lions moved ahead as Hannah Behner collected a loose ball off a Sarah Owen save and knocked it in for the go-ahead goal at the 54:19 mark. Young Harris added a third goal in the 67th minute from Juul and capped the scoring with a final goal at the 73:18 mark from Brooke Morrison. 

Owen finished with five saves on the night as Young Harris attempted 18 shots to Lander's seven. The Mountain Lions put nine shots on goal, while Fisher's goal was Lander's lone shot on target. 

Lander returns to action on Monday, Feb. 15, with a home match against USC Aiken at 7:30 p.m.
