GREENWOOD – The Lander wrestling came out of the gate firing and did not slow down, as the Bearcats ran circles around Emmanuel College, winning 43-6 on Wednesday, December 1.
Lander moves to 2-0 on the season while Emmanuel drops to 0-3
The only points the Lions got all night came via a forfeit at the 125-weight class.
After that, Lander put up 43 unanswered points that featured four pins, two major decisions and one tech fall.
Down 6-0 at the 133-weight class, Elijah Lusk got the Bearcats on the board with a 15-2 major decision. He added eight of those 15 points in the first period with a takedown along with a two-point and four-point near fall.
Ezekiel Marquez and Randy Myers both pinned their opponents in the 141 and 149 weight classes to make it 16-6 Lander.
The first of two matches to be won by decision for Lander, Bryson Ethington kept the points coming with a 7-2 win at the 157-weight class.
Gage Bernall earned an 18-2 tech fall in the first period with three four-point near falls at the 165-weight class while Jack Bond took a 17-5 major decision at 174.
Ethan Lopez battled to a 5-4 decision that saw him earn two points on a reversal to make it 4-3 before his counterpart escaped to tie the match 4-4 in the third period. Lopez earned the win with riding time.
Darius Parker and Cameron Coffman finished the night with back-to-back pins to put the Bearcats up 43-6.
