LUBBOCK, Texas - Tenth-ranked Lubbock Christian outscored number one ranked Lander 22-14 in the fourth quarter to take a 76-72 win in the Bearcats' opening game of the Lady Chaps Classic.
The teams battled back and forth through the first quarter, with Lander taking a one-point lead. A layup by Makaila Cangé and a three-pointer by Sarah Crews in the first minute of the second quarter extended the Bearcat lead to six. Later in the quarter Aniaya Jester drilled two free throws to cam a 7-0 run by Lander and make it a 31-18 game. The Lady Chaps slowly crawled back and cut the lead to 37-33 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the teams would continue to lead by more than three points in the third period until Zamiya Passmore drained a jumper at the end of the period to make the score 58-54.
The Bearcats opened up the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run to take a ten-point lead with just under seven minutes to play. Lubbock Christian then hit four straight free throws and a jumper by Laynee Burr to cut into the lead. A jumper from Passmore ended the Chaps run and made it 68-62. Lubbock would end the quarter on a 14-4 run to take the victory.
Passmore led all scorers with 27 points along with seven assists. Jester added 14 points and eight rebounds. Cangé recorded her third straight double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down a game-high ten rebounds, while Miriam Recarte added 11 points.
