GREENWOOD – The Lander men's basketball team will add a new team to its long list of previous opponents when it battles Savannah State for the first time in program history this Saturday.

STORYLINES

• The Bearcats are coming off a close loss to Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday. Lander fell 68-65 on a 3-point shot from SWU with under a minute to go. Neither team was able to put up any points bast the 51-second mark.
• Jared Sherfield led the Bearcats in scoring with 13 points. He also led Lander in rebounds with seven.
• DaJuan Moorer and Martin Vogts joined Sherfield in double-figures for scoring.
• Southern Wesleyan's Tranard Ferell led all players with 14 points.
• The last time the Bearcats began a season 0-3 was the 1984-85 season where they went 20-11. The last time started the year 0-4 was the 1973-74 season. The Blue and Gold started that season 0-8 and went 2-8 in their first 10 games.
• Coming into the game with the Tigers, Lander is averaging 71.3 points per game while allowing 75.7.
• Through the Bearcat's first three games this season, they have fallen by five or fewer points.
• Sherfield is currently sixth in the PBC for rebounds per game with 7.7 and third in total rebounds with 23.
• Nigel Colvin is tied for sixth in 3-pt FG percentage at .500 while Deandre Robinson is fourth in the PBC in 3-pt FG made per game with 3.7. 
• Savannah State is the only opponent from the SIAC the Bearcats will face. The Bearcats will face four schools from the CIAA in Fayetteville State, Claflin. Johnson C. Smith and Livingstone later in the non-conference schedule.
• Savannah State has played one game this season, as the Tigers lost to Saint Leo 107-67 on the road.
• Marcus Scott and Try DeLoach scored 21 and 20 points while Andrew Okorodudu cleaned up a team-high 13 rebounds.
• The Tigers only played three games last season due to COVID.
• The Bearcats return to the road for their next game, with a trip to Fayetteville State in-store on November 24.
