GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Lander wrestling team defeated Mount Olive 35-9 in their opening dual of the season.
Lander moves to 1-0 overall and in the SACC while Mount Olive drops to 1-1 overall and in the SACC.
Lander began the match at the 174-weight class, as Jack Bond kicked the night off with a win by decision to give the Bearcats an early 3-0 lead. Ethan Lopez would follow that up with a pin to make it 9-0 Lander before the Trojans got on the board with a pin at 197.
The Bearcats would see yet another pin go their way, this time Cameron Coffman getting the bonus points to advance the Bearcat lead to 15-6.
Bonus points would continue to roll Lander's way, as at the 125-weight class, Isham Peace won 14-1 and Elijah Lusk won 18-0 to make it 24-6 Lander.
Zeth Brower took a 13-4 major decision victory before Mount Olive would win by decision at the 157-weight class to make it 27-9.
The Bearcats would respond with wins from Randy Myers and Gage Bernall to close the match out with wins by decision and a major decision to give Lander its 35-9 final score.
Lander next competes in the Life University open on November 20.
