Men's soccer hosts Flagler on Senior Day this Saturday

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer will be honoring its seniors this Saturday before taking on Flagler to conclude the regular season.

STORYLINES

  • Lander is coming off a 4-2 defeat to North Georgia this past Wednesday.
  • Tom Marriott scored two goals against the Nighthawks to increase his team lead in goals to 15.
  • This was the first win for North Georgia over Lander since October 22, 2011.
  • Lander will be honoring seven seniors on Saturday. Max Landau, Tom Marriott, Aaron Kirkland, Luke Jordan, Julian Sidletsky and Grant Wagner and Jacob Withers will be honored pregame.
  • Marriott is now up to 15 goals, 10 assists and 40 points on the season. The only player to have scored more goals since 2010 is Clement Dauchy. Dauchy scored 16 in the 2013 season. 
  • The last time Lander had a player break 40 points in a season was back in 2006. Nick Cooke and Adam Arthur passed the 40 point mark with 43 and 41 respectively. The most points recorded since 2000 is 46, and that marks belongs to Luke Ibbetson in 2003.
  • The Bearcats are guaranteed to host a quarterfinal game on November 6. 
  • The No. 1 and 2 seeds (Young Harris and Clayton State) received byes into the semifinals while the No. 3 and 4 seeds will host the No. 5 and 6 seeds.
  • If Lander defeats Flagler, the Bearcats will clinch the No. 3 seed, a loss will lock the Bearcats in at the No. 4 seed.
  • Going into Saturday, Georgia Southwestern is in fifth while North Georgia is in sixth. The two teams are also locked into the PBC Tournament. A UNG win will move the Nighthawks into fifth due to a tiebreaker.
  • Max McNulty is now up to 23 points with 10 goals and three assists on the season.
  • Marco Gueli and Kevin Rubaszewski are third and fourth on the team in points with 16 and 14.
  • The last time Lander faced Flagler was back on October 6. The two sides went deep into overtime tied 1-1. Marriott was able to drill a shot into the top deck of the goal late into the second overtime period to clinch the 2-1 victory.
  • Lander is 12-5-2 all-time against Flagler.
  • Marriott is currently fifth among all active Div. II players for career points with 89. Among all three divisions, Marriott is tied for 33rd among all active NCAA players in career points. 
  • He is also tied for 13th among all active Div. II players for career goals with 31.
  • The Bearcats have scored 39 goals this season, with an average of 2.44 per game. Opponents are scoring an average of 1.69 goals per game against the Bearcats. Lander has allowed the third-fewest total goals with 27.
  • Flagler has scored 32 goals this season and averages 2.13 per game. The Saints have allowed 29 goals on the season and average 1.93 per game.
  • Saturday's match will feature three of the top scorers in the PBC. Matteo Costa of Flagler leads the PBC and the nation in goals with 17. Marriott is second in the PBC and tied for third in the nation with 15. McNulty is tied for third in the PBC and tied for 26th in the nation with 10 goals this season.
  • In its last three losses, the Bearcats have been outscored 11-5.
  • The Saints are coming into Saturday riding a five-game win streak. They most recently defeated Georgia Southwestern 3-2 at home last Wednesday.
  • Costa leads Flagler in goals and points with 17 and 36 respectively. Joeran Osland leads the Saints in assists with seven.
  • Andrea Lubbia has played and started 15 games for Flagler. He holds a 9-6-0 record while allowing 29 goals and making 54 saves.
  • Lander takes on either Georgia Southwestern or North Georgia for a PBC Quarterfinal match on November 6.
