GREENWOOD – Although pushing into extra time, the Lander men's soccer fell to Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening 2-1.
Lander falls to 6-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the PBC while GSW moves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the PBC.
Neither team was able to produce any goals in the first half of play. Lander took six shots while GSW took 1. Both teams were able to put one shot on goal in the first frame.
The Hurricanes were the first to strike in the second half, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by the Bearcats to take a 1-0 advantage in the 48th minute.
Lander was able to strike back in the 76th minute when Kevin Rubaszewski tucked away a shot in the box off a pass from Charlie Curtis to tie things up 1-1.
The Bearcats turned up the heat in the second half, taking 10 shots in total.
GSW would use another breakdown in the Lander defensive end to quickly end the game, with the winning goal coming in the 94th minute.
Lander returns to action with a trip to Flagler on Wednesday, October 6 for a 3 pm start.
