AIKEN, S.C. - USC-Aiken defeated Lander 3-1 Wednesday night in Peach Belt Volleyball action.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first set, the Bearcats went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. The Pacer battled back to make it a three-point deficit, but a Kill by Daria De Carvalho Peixe ended their run. Back-to-back kills by Maya Walker increased the Lander lead to 15-8. USC-Aiken could not cut the lead to less than two points as eh Bearcats took set one 25-21.
Trailing 9-8 in the second set, Lander would get kills by De Carvalho Peixe and Christina Aguayo to take a 10-9 lead. Later in the set, a kill by Olivia Dow make the score 13-11 Bearcats, but respond and eventually take the lead and the set 25-23 to tie the match. The Pacers would take the third set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-16 to win.
Aguayo led the Bearcats with 13 kills, while De Carvalho Peixe added 10. Madilyn Reed dished out a game-high 30 assists and had 12 digs for a double-double, while Patricia Pantoja has 22 digs.
