AIKEN, S.C. – After not playing last Saturday, the Lander men's soccer team got back in the swing of things with a 2-0 win at USC Aiken Wednesday evening.
Lander moves to 8-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the PBC. USC Aiken falls to 1-10-0 and 0-8-0 in the PBC.
With the shutout, Jacob Withers now has the second most career shutouts in program history with 25.
The Bearcats and Pacers both had chances in the first frame, but it was the Blue and Gold who struck first when Max McNulty put away his eighth goal of the season with Tom Marriott picking up his eighth assist of the season in the 12th minute of play.
Lander would hold its 1-0 lead into the first half after taking six shots compared to the Pacer's four.
Wither's lone save came in the first frame as he was able to deflect a well-placed header away for a corner kick.
The Bearcats would continue to seek opportunities in the second half, taking five more shots.
Marriott was able to score his 12th goal of the season off a free-kick to give Lander its 2-0 edge in the 64th minute of play.
Lander returns home to face No.5 Young Harris on Saturday for a 3 pm start.
