GREENWOOD – The Lander wrestling team earned a pair of pins on Thursday night against No. 13 Newberry, but fell 33-12 to the Wolves in the final dual of the season in front of 188 fans in Finis Horne Arena.
Bryson Ethington provided the first win of the night for the Bearcats (4-8), earning a fall for Lander at 165. After escaping out of danger early in the period, Ethington took down Nick Giantono and managed to pin the sophomore to put the Bearcats on the board. The pin was the first of Ethington's career in dual action.
Darius Parker posted six points at 197, starting strong in the second period and earning a pin of Keenan Graham 55 seconds into the session. The victory marked Parker's third win in his last four duals.
The Bearcats became the first non-conference opponent to notch two pins against Newberry (7-3) since St. Cloud State on Dec. 2, 2018.
Lander's grapplers will compete in the NCAA Super Region II Championships on Feb. 29 in Pembroke, N.C.
