DAHLONEGA, Ga. – After two days of action, the Lander women's golf team finished in fifth place at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial.
The Bearcats as a team shot 55-over-par after shooting 315,305 and 296 to conclude the three rounds.
"I'm proud of how we responded today, as we shot the lowest of all the teams today with a 296. It's the lowest round since we started the program back up," said head coach Mark Riddle. "I'm impressed by the progress this group has shown, even with how young we are, I can't wait to see what these girls can do over the next year or two."
The 296 shot on the final round is also the second-lowest round shot by the Bearcats in program history and the lowest since 2012.
Junior Hannah Stephenson led the team with a seven-over-par performance, including shooting three-under-par in the final round.
"I was able to walk with Hannah during her last five holes and saw her birdy four in a row to finish with a 69 on the day. Now that's fun to watch as a coach because you see so much hard work put in and it's paying off."
Freshman Ella Nilsson finished in the top-10 after tying for ninth after hitting 10-over-par while sophomore Chloe Hiott finished tied for 23rd after shooting 20-over-par. Freshman Caitlyn Cash finished tied for 30th with a 22-over-par performance. Junior Caroline Hardee rounded out the lineup tied for 35th after shooting 27-over-par.
"We have such great chemistry as a team, and that shows as we continue to get better and better. I couldn't be prouder of where we are as a program, and I tribute that to having a great staff as well," said Riddle. "Coach Bartlett works very hard to help improve our team, and it shows in our scores. Today was a great way to start the season, and I can't wait for us to get to work preparing for the next tournament."
The Bearcats travel next to St. Augustine, Fla., to compete in the Flagler Fall Slam from Oct. 26-27 at the Marsh Creek Country Club.
