Women's tennis falls short against Emmanuel

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's tennis team was unable to overcome a 3-1 deficit on Tuesday afternoon as the Bearcats fell to Emmanuel, 4-3, at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Lander (3-8) fell behind early when the Lions (3-7) scored a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Nelli Lius tied the score with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, but Emmanuel claimed the next two points to build a 3-1 advantage.

The Bearcats would stay within striking distance as Eduarda Ferreira earned a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 and Lucia Ric rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5, but Lander could not complete the comeback as Emmanuel earned the deciding point.

Lander travels to Belmont Abbey on Saturday before hosting Flagler on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
