MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lander women's basketball team survived a second-half rally and a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer to beat Georgia College, 56-54, on Saturday afternoon. 

Lander (11-5, 8-2 PBC) opened the game on a 14-3 run and led by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a 13-point lead into halftime. However, the Bobcats (5-10, 3-6 PBC) held the Bearcats to just 17 second-half points and tied the game at 54-54 with 3:33 to go, the first tie of the game. After the teams missed their next three shot attempts, Jessica Harris drove the baseline and missed a leaner, but Symone Starks nabbed the rebound and made the putback for the game-winner with 1:19 to play. Harris had a chance to put the game away with six second remaining, but missed a pair of free throws. Harper Vick's jumper for the Bobcats was off target as time expired, giving Lander the victory. 

The Bearcats led for 37:42 of the game and never trailed. Lander forced Georgia College into 22 turnovers, the second-most on the year for the Bobcats. 

Harris and Tabitha Dailey led the Bearcats with 12 points each. Harris grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Dailey collected seven. Mylea McKenith finished with nine points and led the team with four assists. 

Lander returns to action on Monday when the Bearcats host Clayton State at 1:30 p.m.
