No. 10 men's soccer shuts out Anderson in home battle, 1-0

Box Score

GREENWOOD – The 10th-ranked Lander men's soccer team used a George Knight goal in the 33rd minute to knock off Anderson on Wednesday night in front of 482 fans at Van Taylor Stadium.

The Bearcats (2-0) and Trojans (1-1) played a scrappy match, drawing eight yellow cards and two reds. Lander was whistled for 20 fouls on the evening, but shut out Anderson thanks to a career-high six saves from freshman Jose Eduardo Bomfim.

The crowd of 482 fans marked the third-largest to witness a men's soccer match in Lander history.

Knight netted the lone goal of the evening at the 32:30 mark, taking a cross from Richard Bryan out of the air and heading it past Trojan keeper Gal Elyashuv.

From there, the Bearcats kept Anderson off the board, allowing the Trojans to attempt just one corner kick in the match. Lander held a 14-12 advantage in shots.

Lander plays host to Tusculum on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
