Lander rallies from early deficit to down Newberry, 5-4

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's tennis team fought back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to knock off Newberry, 5-4, on Thursday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

The Wolves were searching for their first-ever victory over the Bearcats and took the top two doubles points to grab the early lead.

Lander (2-2) rallied with two dominant performances from Isabella Schulz and Manasi Ramadani, who claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots.

With the match knotted at 4-4, freshman Lindsey Wiggins sealed the victory for the Bearcats with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph at the No. 4 position to give Lander its 11th consecutive win over Newberry (5-3).

Lander visits Belmont Abbey on Saturday, Feb. 17, in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
