Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Lander softball pitching staff allowed just three runs over 14 innings, but the Bearcats fell in a doubleheader against Embry-Riddle on Wednesday afternoon. Embry-Riddle won by scores of 1-0 and 2-1.
Lander, which played four one-run games over the last two days, falls to 10-16 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 10-11.
In game one, Illona Andringa (7-5) tossed a complete-game shutout for Embry-Riddle, striking out four and allowing just three hits.
Brianna Surrento (3-5) took the loss for Lander, striking out two, walking one and allowing just one run on three hits in six innings.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning when Anna Battison scored on Kassidy Simons' infield single.
In the second game, the Eagles once again took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Lander tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth when Emily Marousek singled and then advanced to second on a throwing error, which allowed Logan Leverette to come home.
Embry-Riddle responded in the bottom of the inning on another RBI single on the infield, this time from Eryn Chester.
Simons (3-5) earned the win for the Eagles, striking out four and allowing one unearned run on four hits in seven innings.
McKenzi Ferguson (5-8) struck out four, walked one and allowed two runs on three hits for the Bearcats.
