GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team suffered two losses Saturday afternoon, losing to Armstrong State, 9-0 and 19-11, in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Doug Spears Field.

The Bearcats will travel to Queens on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader. Sunday's doubleheader against Flagler was postponed due to the threat of inclement weather

Macy Coleman drove in a run in the fifth and Katie Collins ended the scoring with a two-run home run in the seventh.

Trzaska (6-3) earned the win for the Pirates, striking out eight and allowing two hits in seven innings.

Brianna Surrento (3-6) suffered the loss, striking out four, walking one and allowing six runs, all unearned, on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

In game two, Morgan Duff (1-0) tossed seven innings of relief, striking out four, walking three and allowing five runs on seven hits to earn the win

The Pirates took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a home run from Autumn Parrish, but Lander exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning. Chandler Carey and Jamie Pisel each doubled home a pair of runs, while Destiny Clyde doubled to drive in Pisel and Halie Sorrow singled in Kelli McCormack.

Armstrong tied the game with a pair of homers in the third and took a 9-6 lead in the top of the fourth before Reychel Webster launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to pull the Bearcats within a run.

Trzaska homered in the sixth and the Pirates surged ahead with a nine-run out burst in the top of the seventh.

Lander attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh as Sorrow homered and Destiny Clyde doubled to drive in Webster. Logan Leveretted singled Clyde home, but the Bearcats could not pull any closer and fell by a score of 19-11.
