Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. – The Lander women's basketball team rallied from a five-point deficit with less than five minutes to play and knocked off the Flagler Saints 69-65 to stay atop the Peach Belt Conference's East Division on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats earned their sixth consecutive win, improving to 16-5 overall and 9-3 in the PBC. Flagler falls to 3-18, (1-13).
Mylea McKenith led Lander with 20 points and five steals, while Tabitha Dailey notched her first career double-double. The freshman finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds, both career-highs. Ty'hesha Reynolds scored 11 points while playing all 40 minutes.
Bri Roberts paced Flagler with 32 points and Tiffany Hodge added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Saints.
The Bearcats shot 23-of-64 from the floor (35.9 percent), 22-of-29 from the free throw line (75.9 percent), and 1-of-14 from 3-point range (7.1 percent). Lander had a 42-32 edge on the boards.
Flagler connected on 25-of-53 field goals (47.2 percent), 13-of-16 free throws (81.3 percent), and 2-of-13 from behind the arc (15.4 percent).
The Saints took their largest lead of the game at the 4:48 mark of the fourth quarter, when a Roberts' layup gave Flagler a 55-50 lead. McKenith answered with four consecutive points to cut the deficit to one, then stole the ball and found Jessica Harris for a go-ahead layup with 3:20 to play. Another McKenith steal on the next possession led to a layup for Reynolds, extending Lander's lead to 59-55 with 2:51 to go.
A trio of free throws from McKenith and Dailey put Lander up 62-55 with just 1:56 remaining, but a furious 10-4 run from the Saints cut the Bearcat lead to 66-65 with 16 seconds left in the game.
After a foul, Harris swished a pair of free throws to put Lander up 68-65 and Reynolds stole the ball on Flagler's ensuing possession. The Saints were forced to foul and Reynold knocked down a free throw to put the game away.
