Lander overtaken by second half surge in 5-1 loss at North Georgia

Dahlonega, Ga. – The Lander women's soccer team (5-3, 2-2 PBC) dropped its second straight match in a 5-1 loss to North Georgia on Wednesday night. Senior forward Sara Flores notched her second goal of the season on the assist from senior defender Kayla Walker.

The two teams headed to the half with the Nighthawks leading 2-1 after goals from sophomore midfielder Rosie Embley and freshman forward Taylor Malasek. Flores had two close opportunities in the first half to add the equalizer for the Bearcats. The first shot on goal was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Goudy, while the second deflected off the crossbar.

North Georgia (5-3-2, 3-2-0 PBC) stormed out of the half with three additional goals to give the Nighthawks a commanding 5-1 final result. Goudy saved three shots on goal from the Bearcats in the second half.

Flores led the team with five shots to go along with one shot each from freshman Juliette Vidal, sophomore Emily Jermstad and freshman Kylee Eppl.

Lander will return to Van Taylor Stadium on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against USC Aiken. The Bearcats will hold Senior Day festivities prior to the match to honor the six seniors on the roster.
