Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander volleyball team dropped a Peach Belt Conference match to Georgia College, 16-25, 18-25, 17-25 in Horne Arena on Tuesday night.
The Bearcats (14-8, 3-4 PBC) hit .069 and were unable to overcome 22 errors as the Bobcats (15-5, 4-3 PBC) led the majority of the evening.
"Definitely not the outcome we were looking for," said head coach Ashley White. "We've just got to live and learn from that and move on to the next one."
Georgia College started strong in the opening set, opening up an 18-9 lead. Spurred on by a pair of kills from Hannah Hritz, Lander rallied with a 7-1 run to pull within three points. However, Georgia College closed down the set with six consecutive points to take a 25-16 win.
The Bobcats charged out front in the second set, taking a 9-2 advantage and leading 18-9 midway through the set. Down 23-13, Lander once again pulled within striking distance with a 5-1 run, highlighted by a pair of Reyonia Whipple kills, making the score 23-18. Georgia College held on once more, using a Kayla Brockway kill to finish the set.
In the third set, the Bearcats battled to tie the score at 11-11 before a Georgia College 4-0 run swung the momentum to the visiting bench. After a pair of attack errors pulled Lander within three points, the Bobcats ended the evening with a 4-0 spurt to claim a 3-0 match victory.
Hritz led the Bearcats will 11 kills, while Whippled added seven. Sophia Perkins recorded 20 assists, Hannah McManus tallied a team-high 16 kills and Kirstin Martindale finished with 13 digs and six kills.
Lander returns to action next Tuesday with a Halloween night showdown against Emmanuel.
