TAMPA, Fla. - The fifth-ranked Lander men's tennis team picked up one of its biggest wins of the season Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats downed defending national champion and No. 7-ranked Barry University, 5-4, in a non-conference match.
Lander improves to 16-2 overall, while Barry drops to 11-5.
Lander jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles as No. 1 Marc Hofer/Loic Minery (L) def. Ahmed Triki/Renato Lombardi (B), 8-6; No. 2 Chris Devoize/Alexandre Springer (L) def. Flavio Matteoli/Victor Ravier (B), 8-3; and No. 3 Charles Baron/Ozan Cildir (L) def. Franco Echenique/Nico Dreer (B), 9-7.
In singles, No. 1 Ahmed Triki (B) def. Marc Hofer (L), 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 Nico Dreer (B) def. Chris Devoize (L), 6-3, 6-2; No. 3 Loic Minery (L) def. Fabian Pronnet (B), 6-3, retired; No. 4 Renato Lombardi (B) def. Alexandre Springer (L), 6-2, 2-6, 6-1; No. 5 Ozan Cildir (L) def. Daniel Ventura (B), 7-6, 6-3; and No. 6 Victor Ravier (B) def. Paul Arslanian (L), 6-2, 6-0.
Lander will next face No. 2-ranked Saint Leo at 10 a.m, Sunday.
