Box Score 2 GREENWOOD - The Lander softball team suffered its second straight Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep against a nationally ranked team Sunday afternoon when No. 16 Young Harris downed the Bearcats, 3-2 and 6-1, at Doug Spears Field.
The Mountain Lions improve to 31-15 overall and 17-7 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 23-19, 9-11.
In the first game, YHC's Darby Stanford (24-4) was awarded the win after striking out 10 and allowing two earned runs on six hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's Lexi Griffin (7-9) took the loss after striking out four, walking one and allowing three earned runs on four hits in three innings.
Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the third innning on Hannah Harrison's two-run homer to left centerfield.
But Lander rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the third when Hallie Sorrow singled in Destiny Clyde, and MaKenzie Smith advanced home on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
The Mountain Lions regained the lead at 3-2 in the fourth on Grace Botti's solo hom run.
For Lander, Dariean Ward batted 2-for-3.
In the second game, Stanford picked up her second win of the day after striking out seven and allowing seven hits in six scoreless innings of relief.
Lander's McKenzi Ferguson (14-9) suffered the loss, striking out four, walking two and allowing five earned runs on eight hits in five innings pitched.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Clyde scored on Sorrow's sacrifice fly, but Young Harris bounced back in the second to tie the game at 1-all on Sarah Magill's lead off home run.
Magill came back with another homer in the fifth, this time a three-run shot to left field, which gave the Mountain Lions a 4-1 advantage. Young Harris added two more runs in the sixth inning when Jeanie Perrucci's RBI single plated Chandler Stooksbury and Perrucci later scored on a hit-by-pitch.
For Lander, Clyde went 3-for-4, while Kelli McCormack and Ward had two hits apiece.
For Young Harris, Jeanie Perrucci batted 3-for-4, Magill 2-for-4 with four RBI, and Rachel Benson 2-for-4.
