No. 22 Armstrong State softball takes two from Bearcats

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 22 Armstrong State softball team held Lander scoreless Saturday afternoon as the Pirates swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader by defeating the Bearcats, 5-0 and 2-0.

Armstrong improves to 24-8 overall and 8-2 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 18-14, 5-7.

In the first game, Tori Bates (8-5) earned the win for Armstrong as she struck out five and gave up three hits in the complete-game shutout.

The Bearcats' Lexi Griffin (5-6) took the loss after walking three and allowing five earned runs on eight hits in six innings pitched.

Logan Harrell gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the first inning after she drove in Peyton Roth with a single to centerfield.

In the fifth, Hannah Reppert and Macy Coleman each had two-run homers to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Coleman went 3-for-3 for Armstrong.

In the second game, Jane Traska (8-3) earned the win on the mound after striking out two, walking two and allowing three hits in the complete-game shutout.

McKenzi Ferguson (12-7) was tagged with the loss, striking out two, walking one and allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings.

Michelle Breen homered in the fourth and Ashley Sterritt scored on Peyton Roth's RBI groundout in the sixth for the Pirates.

Sierra Newman batted 2-for-2 for the Pirates.
