Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - McKenzi Ferguson earned her 12th win of the season Friday afternoon as the Lander softball team split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with Flagler after scoring four runs in the second inning and three in the fourth en route to a 7-3 victory in the second game. Flagler won the first game, 9-2.
Lander moves to 18-12 overall and 4-4 in the PBC, while the Saints are now 21-20, 6-12.
Ferguson (12-6) earned the win after striking out four, walking one and allowing three earned runs on eight hits in the complete seven innings.
The Saints' Callie Reed (7-9) was tagged with the loss with one strikeout, two walks and four runs (none earned) on three hits in 12 innings.
Flagler went up 1-0 in the first on Mackenzie Conley's solo homer, but the Bearcats bounced back in the second to take a 4-1 lead on Reychel Webster's three-run double and Casey Wooten's RBI single.
The Saints cut it to 4-2 in the second on Mallory Allen's solo homer, but, again, Lander stormed back to go up 7-2 in the fourth on Destiny Clyde's RBI double, while Wooten and Clyde later scored on a Flagler error.
Flagler trimmed the Lander advantage to 7-3 in the fifth on Woodard's RBI bunt single.
For Lander, Webster batted 2-for-3 with three RBI, Destiny Clyde went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In the first game, the Saints' Haleigh Corbally (9-7) earned the win with four strikeouts, three walks and two earned run on six hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's Lexi Griffin (5-5) took the loss, striking out one and allowing three earned runs on 11 hits in two innings. Ferguson struck out six and allowed one earned run on one hit in four innings of relief.
After Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Kelli McCormack's bases-loaded walk that plated Wooten, Flagler erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Malloree Escue, Conley, Maddy Murphy, Rachel Hudson, and Whitney Woodard; Garland Evans added an RBI triple; and Kayla Fuller an RBI groundout.
Conley and Escue both added solo homers in the second and sixth innings respectively, while Lander's only other run came on Halie Sorrow's RBI single that scored Webster.
