Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Lander softball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at the University of Montevallo. Lander won the first game, 4-3, the fell to the Falcons, 9-4.
The Bearcats move to 14-10 overall and 1-3 in the PBC, while Montevallo goes to 11-16, 2-2.
In the first game, Reychel Webster's sixth-inning RBI single up the middle plated Casey Wooten for the game-winning run.
Lexi Griffin (4-4) earned the win after striking out one, walking six and allowing three earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings. McKenzi Ferguson was credited with her third save with one strikeout in 1.1 innings.
Montevallo's Jocelyn Rivera (5-4) took the loss after fanning one, walking one and allowing two earned runs on five hits in four innings.
Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first when Wooten scored on a fielding error, but the Falcons came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-all on Kaitlynn Thomason's RBI single.
The Bearcats then went up 3-1 after Webster drove in Kasey Rogers in the second, followed by Kelli McCormack's solo home run in the third.
Again the Falcons retaliated to tie the game at 3-3 in the third on an RBI single by Thomson and a bases-loaded walk that scored Lady sarah Fererico.
For Lander, Wooten, Webster and McCormack had two hits apiece.
In the second game, Montevallo scored five runs in the first inning then two runs each in the second and third to take a 9-0 lead.
Lander rallied for three runs in the fourth on RBI doubles by Rogers and Destiny Clyde. Damiean Ward smacked a solo homer in the fifth for the Bearcats' final score.
Montevallo's Jostlyn Higgerson (6-4) earned the win with two strikeouts, one walk and three earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings.
Lander's Ferguson suffered the loss with four strikeouts, two walks and four earned runs on four htis in 4.2 innings.
For Lander, Chandler Carey batted 4-for-4, while Rogers had two hits.
