GREENWOOD – Freshman Chandler Carey hit her first career home run Friday afternoon to lead the Lander softball team to a non-conference doubleheader split against Pfeiffer at Doug Spears Field. Pfeiffer claimed the first game, 7-2, while the Bearcats won the nightcap, 4-1.

Both teams move to 3-3 on the season. Lander will host Belmont Abbey at 2 p.m., Saturday, in another non-conference doubleheader.

In the first game, Pfeiffer's Kennedy Lester (1-1) earned the win, striking out three, walking five and allowing one earned run on three hits in the complete seven innings.

Lander's McKenzi Ferguson (1-1) took the loss with five strikeouts, three walks and seven earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings.

Pfeiffer did most of its damage early in the game, scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second.

Rachel Crowder batted 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI, while Emma Tuttle went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Anna Lauren Brafford also had two hits.

The Bearcats scored both their runs in the second inning. Casey Kent went 1-for-2 with one double.

In the second game, Lander's Lexi Griffin (1-1) was awarded the win with three strikeouts, two walks and one earned run on two hits in the complete seven innings.

Pfeiffer's Sam Jarmusch (1-1) took the loss after striking out three and allowing three earned runs on eight hits in four innings.

Lander took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Carey's solo home run. The Bearcats stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fifth when Kent belted a two-RBI single and later scored on a throwing error.

Pfeiffer's Jaclyn Boever smacked an RBI double in the sixth to trim the lead to 4-1.

Carey and Destiny Clyde had two hits apiece for Lander.
