Box Score HICKORY, N.C. – The Lander men's soccer team handed Lee Squires his first career victory as the Lander head coach Saturday night when the Bearcats held off Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1, in a non-conference game.
Lander is 1-0 on the season and will host Erskine at 7 p.m., Wednesday, in a non-conference game at Van Taylor Stadium.
Robert Seaton gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead at 74:15 when dribbled down the right side and fired in goal past the defender.
Lander made it 2-0 at 77:59 on Jamie North's goal, which was assisted by Hugo Delhommelle.
The Bears prevented the shutout after Isamel Noumansana found the back of the net at 79:59 off an assist by Ben Meredith.
Lander outshot the Bears, 12-11, but Lenoir-Rhyne led in corner kicks, 8-6.
Bearcat goalkeeper Barrett Nielsen recorded four saves.
