Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lander volleyball team won both its games Friday in the season-opening Queens Fall Invitational in completely opposite manners. Lander downed host Queens, 3-2, in a five set, opening match, then made quick work against Lenoir-Rhyne in three straight sets.
Lander defeated Queens, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 29-31, 15-10, and blanked L-R 25-23, 26-15, 25-19. On Saturday, Lander will face King College at 12:45 and Catawba at 5:15.
Against Queens, Kendall Korte led the way with a double-double of 10 kills and 20 digs, while Tarryn Angermeier and Halle Dotson posted 15 and 13 kills respectively. Khiani Kelly added 11 kills, Ali Kirk 27 assists and Sophia Perkins 20 assists.
Queens was led by Rebecca Cochran (17 kills, 15 digs), Meredith Jones (12 kills, 29 digs), Kelsey McCormick (11 kills), Sydney Kunz (30 assists, 14 digs), Annika Jones (25 assists, 19 digs), and Megan Mancini (18 digs).
Against Lenoir-Rhyne, Dotson and Angermeier had 12 and 10 kills respectively, while Kirk posted a double-double with 20 assists and 13 digs. Julia Ferreira-Alves and Korte added 12 and 11 digs respectively.
Leading Lenoir-Rhyne were Ashley Wells (12 kills) and Briana Gottberg (26 assists, 16 digs).
