Box Score GREENWOOD - The Lander women's soccer team won its season-opening game for the 13th time in the last 14 years Thursday night when the Lady Bearcats blanked rival Erskine College, 2-0, in a non-conference game at Van Taylor Stadium.
The 1-0 Bearcats will host Wingate at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, in a non-conference contest. Erskine starts the season at 0-1.
Sara Flores notched the first goal of the season for Lander when she took an Erin Dooley pass and blasted it into the back of the goal at 9:44.
Lander stretched the lead to 2-0 at 28:55 after Logan Lewis fired in a shot from directly in front of the goal off a pass from Taylor Hurst.
LU goalkeeper Shannon DeSantis recorded one save in the full 90 minutes, while Erskine's Ashton Burgess had eight.
The Bearcats outshot the Flying Fleet, 26-3, and led in corner kicks, 9-0.
