SURPRISE, Ariz. - The No. 8-ranked Lander men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament Wednesday when the Bearcats blanked No. 13 Drury, 5-0, at the Surprise Racquet & Tennis Complex. (Tournament Bracket)
Lander improves to 18-3 and will face the winner of No. 7 Concordia/No. 19 Northwest Missouri State at 12 p.m., Thursday. Drury ends the season at 23-2.
In doubles, No. 1 Adam Jonsson/Loic Minery (L) def. Maximilian Hepp/Jorge Nadal (D), 8-1; No. 2 Thibaut Leoussoff/Marc Hofer (L) def. Sebastien Amato/Christian Ibsen (D), 8-4; and No. 3 Benjamin Salle/Diego Zegarra (L) def. Damien Minguez/Sacha Mourier (D), 8-1.
In singles, Leoussoff gave Lander a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jakub Sipos at the No. 3 position, then Minery clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Sebastien Amato at No. 2.
The remaining matches were halted when Lander secured the needed points for the victory.
