FLORENCE - The second-seeded Columbus State women's tennis team defeated seventh-seeded Lander, 5-0, Friday morning in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at the Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
The No. 29-ranked Lady Bearcats, who drop to 9-8 overall, next move to the consolation bracket where they will play the loser of No. 3 Georgia College/No. 6 Young Harris, at 9 a.m., Saturday.
Ninth-ranked Columbus State, which improves to 19-2, advances to Saturday's 9 a.m. semifinal round against the Georgia College/Young Harris winner.
In doubles, No. 1 Camila Tobar/Beatriz Leon (CSU) def. Marion Courbis/Renata Mello (L), 8-1; No. 2 Saravinder Pannu/Kirsa Utech (CSU) def. Elise Sancelme/Alyssa Savill (L), 8-5; and No. 3 Elena Preadca/Olivera Tadijin (CSU) def. Maggie Elliott/Ivanka Mocic (L), 8-5.
In singles, No. 2 Kirsa Utech (CSU) def. Marion Courbis (L), 6-0, 6-2; and No. 6 Elena Preadca (CSU) def. Lori Flick (L), 6-0, 6-1. The remainder of the singles matches were halted when Columbus State had enough points for the win.
