Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 6-ranked Georgia College softball team swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander Saturday afternoon at the Peeler Complex. The Bobcats claimed the first game, 2-0, and the second, 10-2, in six innings.
Georgia College improves to 36-7 overall and 14-4 in the PBC, while Lander falls to 12-24, 6-14.
In the first game, GCSU's Marisa Boyette (19-3) earned the complete-game shutout after striking out five, walking one and allowing just one hit.
Lander's Hannah Newton (8-12) suffered the loss with two strikeouts, five walks and one earned run on four hits in six innings.
Georgia College scored both its runs in the first inning when Danielle Bernstein's RBI triple drove in Kristen Brooks, then Bernstein went home on Abi LeRoy's RBI groundout.
In the second game, GC's Carly Lewis (16-4) was awarded the win after striking out five, walking one and allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings.
Lander's Amanda Chastain (4-12) took the loss, striking out one, walking two and allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits in 1.2 innings.
The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the first on Lacey Najafi's two-RBI double, then added seven more runs in the second on Brooks' RBI single, LeRoy's grand slam, Hannah Coursey's RBI double and a run she later scored when Taylor Campbell was hit by a pitch.
The Bearcats cut it to 9-2 in the fifth on Destiny Clyde's two-RBI double that plated Melanie Davis and Reychel Webster.
GC ended the game in the sixth via the eight-run rule on Coursey's solo homer to left field.
