Box Score 2 GREENWOOD - The Lander softball team earned its first Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Flagler, 2-0, in the first game, and, 5-3, in the second.
Lander improves to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the PBC, while Flagler drops to 5-16, 0-2.
In the first game, Hannah Newton (4-5) earned the shutout victory with two strikeouts and two hits.
Flagler's Haleigh Corbally (1-2) suffered the loss, striking out three and allowing four hits. Both runs were unearned.
Lander scored both its runs on two errors in the sixth inning as Dariean Ward and Casey Wooten scored on a pair of Flagler errors.
In the second game, the Bearcats' Amanda Chastain (3-4) was credited with the win after walking one and allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings. Newton earned her third save of the season after walking one and allowing one earned run on two hits in one inning.
Lander went up 2-0 in the first inning when Destiny Clyde drove in Wooten, and Ward doubled in Clyde. The Bearcats stretched it to 3-0 in the second after Molly McNulty scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Flagler cut the Lander lead to 3-2 in the sixth on Malloree Escue's two-RBI double that plated Lauren Roudabush and Tori Volz.
The Bearcats extended their advantage to 5-2 in the sixth when Ward's RBI single drove in Wooten and Reychel Webster.
Flagler added its final run in the seventh on Maddy Murphy's sacrifice fly.
Ward and McNulty had two hits each for the Bearcats.
